The Maltese Presidency

14th May 2025 - 14th November 2025

Our Priorities

Malta’s Presidency comes at a highly symbolic time, coinciding with the country’s 60-year-anniversary of its accession to the Council of Europe. Building on decades of commitment to Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Malta is determined to strengthen these fundamental values while addressing key challenges that define today’s global landscape.

The Council of Europe

Since its creation in 1949, the Council of Europe has been at the forefront of promoting human rights, democracy, and the rule of law across Europe and beyond. With 46 Member States and 700 million citizens, it works to ensure the protection of fundamental rights, guided by the European Convention on Human Rights and its extensive legal instruments.
