Designed by Ms Shelley Borg, the logo strikes a balance between tradition and modernity by incorporating four key elements that capture our country’s unique heritage, vibrant culture and natural beauty.
From Concept to Creation
At the core of the design lies the spiral motif, an ancient symbol found across prehistoric civilizations and deeply rooted in Malta’s history through the Ħal Tarxien Prehistoric Complex. This motif emerges as a conch shell and is complimented with three symbols that encapsulate the essence of the Maltese islands:
Ix-Xemx (The Sun) – representing warmth, energy, and the renowned hospitality of the Maltese people.
Il-Luzzu (The Luzzu) – the iconic, colourful fishing boat that embodies Malta’s rich maritime traditions.
Il-Baħar (The Sea) – representing Malta’s deep connection to the Mediterranean Sea, as well as its openness to dialogue and cooperation.
In keeping with Malta’s commitment to youth empowerment, the design of the logo was entrusted in the hands of 17 talented students pursuing a B.A. (Hons.) in Graphic Design Course at MCAST, each embracing the opportunity of creating a unique logo that harnessed their creative ideas and interpretation.
Under the guidance of their lecturer, Mr Darren Duncan, the students dedicated their time to explore various concepts, refine their ideas, and shape their individual submissions. The selected design, by Ms Shelley Borg, is a vibrant and dynamic representation of the rich culture, heritage, and essence of the Maltese islands.
The Presidency extends its heartfelt gratitude to all students, their lecturer, and MCAST for their remarkable creativity, dedication, and contributions
