Digital technologies have revolutionised the way we consume and share information, but they have also fuelled the rapid spread of mis- and disinformation—driven by social media algorithms and advanced AI tools such as deepfakes. While no age group is immune, older adults often face greater difficulties navigating this fast-changing landscape, making them more susceptible to false narratives.
Recognising this, the Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe will host a panel discussion at the 2025 edition of the All-Digital Summit to address the generational divide in media literacy. Experts will explore how disinformation has evolved, the specific obstacles older adults encounter, and practical measures to strengthen digital and media skills. The event will highlight local expertise and best practices, underscoring that in today’s hyperconnected world, building media literacy is a collective responsibility.
Co-organised by the Local Councils’ Association of Malta and All Digital, and held in collaboration with the Council of Europe, the Summit is part of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025. The Summit will convene hundreds of digital education and training leaders, innovators, and changemakers for three dynamic days of collaboration, inspiration, and forward-thinking dialogue.
