No one must be left behind: Digital Inclusion highlighted at the Digital Summit 2025

VALLETTA, 10 September 2025 – More than 300 delegates representing 42 countries convened in Malta for the Digital Summit 2025, organised as part of the European Year of Education for Digital Citizenship.

In his address at the opening session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Hon. Ian Borg, highlighted Malta’s achievements in advancing digital inclusion and innovation. He reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to leveraging digital technologies to improve quality of life. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged participants to use this summit as a moment for reflection and cooperation towards a future that is beneficial for all.

The opening ceremony was followed by a panel discussion organised under the Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe, featuring Dr Maria Aurora Fenech, former Ambassador Gaetan Naudi, and presenter Keith Demicoli. The discussion underscored the importance of digital inclusion and literacy, with a particular focus on supporting older citizens in navigating the digital world.

Drawing on insights from a focus group held in September, panellists highlighted the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation and proposed practical measures to ensure that no one is left behind in Europe’s digital transformation. The session also encouraged collaboration across sectors and age groups to strengthen digital resilience and trust.

Held under the theme “Summit of Educated Digital Citizens: Empowering Connected Generations,” the Digital Summit 2025 is co-organised by the Local Councils’ Association of Malta and All Digital, in collaboration with the Council of Europe.
