BIRGU, 30 October 2025 – The final policy event of Malta’s Council of Europe Presidency highlighted the country’s expanding role within Europe’s Cultural Routes network, convening Maltese stakeholders and international route representatives to deepen cooperation and showcase the programme’s added value for Malta.
The seminar provided a structured overview of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, outlining their core principles while equipping participants with practical insights on how to engage more actively in cross-border cultural initiatives and partnerships.
A total of sixteen Cultural Routes were represented, including the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Routes, Iter Vitis, European Cemeteries Routes, European Route of Ceramics, European Route of Historic Gardens, European Route of Megalithic Culture, Liberation Route Europe, Aeneas Route, Phoenicians’ Route, Via Francigena, Saint Francis’ Ways, Viking Routes, European Fairy Tales Route, European Route of Jewish Heritage, Historic Cafés Route, and Destination Napoleon.
By linking heritage with innovation, each route offers tangible opportunities for cultural tourism and education, while strengthening connections between Maltese communities and their European counterparts. The event reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and sustainable tourism.
