In honour of Malta’s Independence Day, the Presidency will host a special event marking the 60th anniversary of our country’s membership to the Council of Europe. This occasion will celebrate the Maltese Festa – a cherished tradition at the heart of Malta’s life, recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Each year, 94 Festi take place across the Maltese Islands, transforming town squares into breathtaking spectacles. By day, the sound of Church bells echoes through the streets, by night, the sky is illuminated with breathtaking fireworks. Brass bands lead celebrations through the decorated streets, bringing together people from all backgrounds in a joyous expression of Maltese identity.
In this spirit, guests are invited to step into a vibrant celebration of our islands’ culture through an array of traditional dishes, local craftsmanship and exhibitions – all brought to life through a live performance that echoes the country’s tradition. Set against the backdrop of European unity and cultural diplomacy, this reception will be held at Pavillon Joséphine, a municipal hall in the heart of Orangerie Park, just steps away from the European Institutions.
